About Spotify
Spotify is a streaming service from Spotify AB for music, podcasts, video podcasts and audiobooks. The free tier plays with ads; Premium removes ads, allows offline downloads and unrestricted skipping and track order, and adds lossless playback up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz. Social features include Jam for listening together in real time, Blend for merged playlists, collaborative playlists, DJ and daylist. Premium plans include 15 hours a month of listening from the audiobooks subscriber catalogue, and the company also offers Peloton-powered fitness classes inside the app. Spotify runs in a web player, on desktop and mobile apps, and on cars (CarPlay, Android Auto), smart speakers, TVs, consoles and wearables.
Good for
Listeners who want one app for music, podcasts and audiobooks, with wide device support and social listening features such as Jam and Blend.
Watch out for
The free tier has ads and limits on playback control. Audiobook listening on Premium is capped at 15 hours a month, and on Duo and Family only the plan manager gets that allowance. Duo and Family require members to live at the same address.
Pricing notes
As of October 2026 the US Premium page lists Individual $12.99/month (with a 2-month $0 trial for new Premium users), Student $6.99/month (includes a Hulu plan, subject to eligibility), Duo $18.99/month and Family $21.99/month for up to 6 accounts. All prices shown are monthly.
