About Google Docs
Google Docs is Google's online word processor, used in the browser and through iOS and Android apps. Several people can edit a document at once, with comments, suggestions, action items and permission controls. It offers templates, pageless mode, document tabs, building blocks and smart chips, and eSignature for agreements. It imports and directly edits Microsoft Word files and imports PDFs, and works offline. Gemini in Docs can draft and restyle documents using content from Drive, Gmail and Chat. Anyone with a Google Account can use it; some features need a Google Workspace plan.
Good for
Students, teams and organisations that write together in real time and already use Gmail and Google Drive.
Watch out for
Some features, including certain Gemini features and joining Meet from documents, are limited to Google Workspace plans. Complex Word layouts may need checking after import.
Pricing notes
As of October 2026 Docs is free with a Google Account. Google Workspace business plans include it; from this region the pricing page showed Business Starter at EUR 6.80 and Standard at EUR 13.60 per user/month on an annual commitment, Plus at EUR 21.10, with a 14-day trial.
