About IINA
IINA is a free and open-source video player for macOS, built on mpv and maintained by its community under the GPLv3 licence. It is designed as a native Mac app and supports trackpad gestures, system media controls, Picture in Picture and Live Text. Users can rearrange controls, sidebars and other interface elements, and a plugin system lets the community add subtitle sources, video tools and new interfaces. The project states it does not include tracking or telemetry. Version 1.5.0 requires macOS 12 (macOS 11 on Intel).
Good for
Mac users who want mpv's format support and playback quality inside an interface that follows macOS conventions.
Watch out for
macOS only; recent versions need macOS 12 or later on Apple Silicon (11 on Intel).
Pricing notes
As of October 2026 IINA is free under GPLv3; the project accepts donations.
