About KeePassXC
KeePassXC is a community-developed, open-source password manager released under the GPLv3. It stores usernames, passwords, URLs, attachments and notes in an encrypted database file kept locally, which users can place anywhere, including their own cloud storage; no data is stored on KeePassXC servers. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, supports Auto-Type to fill credentials into apps, browser integration, TOTP codes and passkeys, and imports from other managers such as Bitwarden. Version 2.7.9 received a First-level Security Certification (CSPN) from France's ANSSI.
Good for
Privacy-minded users who want full control of an offline, local password database with no account or subscription.
Watch out for
There is no built-in sync or official mobile app; syncing between devices means moving the database file yourself, for example via your own cloud storage, and mobile use relies on third-party KeePass-compatible apps.
Pricing notes
As of October 2026 KeePassXC is free and open source with no subscriptions; the project accepts donations.
