About Proton VPN
Proton VPN is a VPN service from Proton AG in Switzerland, the maker of Proton Mail. Proton states its apps are open source, that it keeps no logs, and that its no-logs policy has been independently audited. The free plan connects one device to servers in a set of randomly selected countries with no ads. VPN Plus adds up to 10 simultaneous devices, servers in many more countries, streaming support, an ad, tracker and malware blocker (NetShield), faster speeds and priority support. Proton Unlimited bundles the VPN with Proton Mail, Calendar, Drive and Pass.
Good for
People who want a usable free VPN without ads, and paying users who value Swiss jurisdiction and open-source apps.
Watch out for
The free plan is limited to one device, medium speed and servers in about 10 countries chosen at random. Headline prices assume a 2-year prepaid term, and renewal is billed yearly at a different rate.
Pricing notes
As of October 2026 the pricing page lists VPN Plus at $9.99/month monthly or $3.49/month on the 2-year plan ($83.76 for the first 24 months, then $83.88 every 12 months), and Proton Unlimited at $7.99/month on the 2-year plan ($191.76, then $119.88/year). Proton Free is $0. Paid plans have a 30-day money-back guarantee.
