About LibreOffice

LibreOffice is an open-source office suite developed by a community under The Document Foundation. It contains six applications: Writer (word processing), Calc (spreadsheets), Impress (presentations), Draw (diagrams and illustrations), Base (databases with tables, forms, queries and reports) and Math (formula editing). It uses the OpenDocument format natively and opens and saves Microsoft Office files. It runs on Windows (x86-64 and ARM64), macOS (Apple silicon and Intel) and Linux (deb and rpm packages), with guide books for each module. The site describes it as a private suite with no forced AI.

Good for

Individuals, schools, governments and organisations that want a full offline office suite without subscriptions or vendor lock-in, including on Linux.

Watch out for

Complex Microsoft Office files with heavy formatting or macros may need adjustment. Help is community-based by default; the site links to professional support options.

Pricing notes

Free to download and use; the project accepts donations. The source code is licensed under the Mozilla Public License v2.0.
