About Bitwarden

Bitwarden is an open-source password manager for individuals and organisations. Vault data is end-to-end encrypted and synced across a web app, desktop apps for Windows, macOS and Linux, mobile apps, browser extensions and a command-line tool. The free plan covers basic password management on unlimited devices; Premium adds an integrated authenticator, file attachments, emergency access and security reports. Business plans add credential sharing, event logs, directory sync, SCIM provisioning and enterprise policies, and organisations can self-host the server. Bitwarden publishes its source code and the results of third-party security audits.

Good for

People who want a capable free password manager, families on a budget, and organisations that need open-source code or self-hosting.

Watch out for

The free plan shares vault items with only one other user, and features such as the built-in authenticator and file attachments need Premium. Self-hosting requires running your own server.

Pricing notes

As of October 2026 the pricing page lists Free, Premium at $1.65/month (billed annually at $19.80) and Families at $3.99/month for up to 6 users (billed annually at $47.88). Business plans are Teams at $4 and Enterprise at $6 per user per month, billed annually, both with free trials.
