About Stirling PDF

Stirling PDF (Stirling PDF, Inc.) is an open-core PDF editor and processor. The editor offers 60+ operations including editing, OCR, convert, compress, compare, redact, page operations, form filling and certificate signing, and runs as Stirling Cloud in the browser, as a desktop app for Windows, Mac and Linux, or self-hosted on your own servers via Docker, Kubernetes or a JAR. A REST API, pipelines, an MCP server and an AI assistant handle batch work such as classifying, redacting, translating or summarising documents. Source code is public on GitHub.

Good for

Privacy-conscious teams and IT departments that want to keep documents on their own machines or servers, and developers who want to automate PDF processing through an API.

Watch out for

The docs describe the project as open-core: SAML SSO, audit logging and some storage and clustering features need a Team or Enterprise licence. A free self-hosted server is limited to 5 users per the licensing docs, and AI and automation draw on a monthly credit allowance.

Pricing notes

As of October 2026 the pricing page lists Free ($0, 1,000 monthly credits), Team at $99/month for 100 users, Enterprise custom, and PDF Processor credits at 1 cent each.
