About Toon Boom Harmony

Harmony, from Toon Boom Animation, is 2D animation software used by studios for television and film. It handles hand-drawn frame-by-frame animation with vector drawing, pressure-sensitive brushes, onion skinning and ink and paint, as well as cut-out character rigging with deformers and controllers, special effects and compositing in one project file. It comes in three editions: Essentials for enthusiasts, Advanced for paperless traditional animation, and Premium for complex rigs and effects. An optional add-on called Ember provides AI-assisted tools such as colouring. It runs on Windows and macOS.

Good for

Animators and small studios producing anime-style or Western 2D series who need both frame-by-frame drawing and rigged cut-out workflows in a studio-standard tool.

Watch out for

Subscription only; the trial is 14 days. The higher editions are priced for professional use, and the Ember AI tools are a separate add-on.

Pricing notes

As of October 2026 the Toon Boom store lists Harmony subscriptions starting at USD 31 per month or USD 259 per year for the entry tier, with higher tiers at USD 79 and USD 143 per month; 3-year terms and student pricing are also offered.
