About Xero
Xero is cloud accounting software for small and growing businesses and their accountants. It sends invoices and quotes, accepts online invoice payments, captures bills and receipts with Smart Document Capture, reconciles bank transactions and gives real-time reports. In the US, standard ACH bill payments are included in business plans. Higher plans add automated bill entry, performance dashboards, cash-flow forecasting, multiple currencies, project time and cost tracking, and expense claims. JAX is its AI assistant for routine bookkeeping tasks and answering finance questions. Payroll is offered through Gusto, and the Xero App Store lists over 1,000 connected apps. A partner programme serves accountants and bookkeepers.
Good for
Small businesses and accounting firms that want cloud books with bank reconciliation and a large app ecosystem.
Watch out for
The Early plan caps you at 20 invoices and 5 bills. US payroll runs through Gusto as an add-on rather than built in.
