About Clip Studio Paint

Clip Studio Paint is a raster and vector drawing application made by Japan's Celsys. It covers illustration brushes, 3D figure and head models for posing reference, perspective rulers, line extraction from images and 3D models, text layout and file export for print. It comes in two editions: PRO for illustration and EX, which adds multi-page comic projects, webtoon tools, PDF/ebook export and full-length animation; PRO is limited to single-page comics and short animations of up to 24 frames. It runs on Windows, macOS, iPad, iPhone, Android, Galaxy devices and Chromebook, with cloud storage for syncing projects and materials.

Good for

Comic and manga artists who need panel layout, multi-page project management, webtoon canvases and tone work in the same app they draw in, plus pose references via 3D models.

Watch out for

The comic features buyers usually want (multi-page projects, webtoon tools, PDF/ebook export, long animations) are EX-only per the official PRO/EX comparison. Perpetual licenses are Windows/macOS only and feature updates after that version need a separate Update Pass.

Pricing notes

As of October 2026 the pricing page offers monthly/annual plans listed from $0.99/month with the first three months free, a one-time perpetual license for Ver. 5.0 (Windows/macOS), and a 12-month single-payment license. The download page lists free trials of up to 3 or 6 months depending on device, plus 30 free hours per month on Windows/macOS.
