About Comic Life
Comic Life, from plasq LLC, lays out comic pages from your own images. It includes page templates, panels, speech balloons, captions and lettering art, photo filters that give pictures a comic look, and a script editor whose elements can be dragged onto pages. Comic Life 4 for Mac adds over 60 templates, over 70 comic fonts, multi-tail balloons, caption threads, lettering along a path, master pages, facing-page spreads and an Instant Alpha background eraser. Comic Life 3 is available for Mac, Windows, iPad, iPhone and Chromebook, and finished comics can be exported, including to PDF. It is widely used in schools, with education pricing.
Good for
Teachers, students and hobbyists who want to make photo comics, how-to guides or school projects from existing images rather than drawing from scratch.
Watch out for
The newest version, Comic Life 4, is Mac only; Windows stays on Comic Life 3, whose download page shows a last update in September 2022. It is a layout tool, not a drawing program.
Pricing notes
A 30-day free trial is offered for desktop. The licence is bought from the plasq store or the Mac App Store, with educational and volume pricing; prices were not shown on the pages read.
