About Final Cut Pro
Final Cut Pro is Apple's video editing application for Mac and iPad. It is built around the Magnetic Timeline, which keeps clips in sync as you move and trim them, and includes Magnetic Mask for isolating people and objects without a green screen, automatic captions, Visual Search and Transcript Search for finding shots, Object Tracker, Smooth Slo-Mo, automatic reframing for different aspect ratios, and Beat Detection for cutting to music. It offers colour grading with curves, wheels and LUTs, advanced audio tools, and a large library of titles, transitions and effects, extended by Motion for motion graphics and Compressor for encoding. Many features build on Apple Intelligence and Apple silicon.
Good for
Mac-based YouTubers, filmmakers and editors who want a fast, Apple-silicon-optimised editor, and iMovie users ready to move up (iMovie projects can be imported).
Watch out for
Apple-only. The Mac app requires macOS 15.6 or later; some features need Apple silicon, and Transcript Search is U.S. English only. Some premium content is only available to Creator Studio subscribers, not one-time buyers.
Pricing notes
As of October 2026 Apple lists Final Cut Pro for Mac as a one-time US$299.99 purchase, or within Apple Creator Studio (with Logic Pro, Pixelmator Pro, Motion and more) at US$12.99/month or US$129/year after a 30-day free trial; education US$2.99/month or US$29.99/year.
