About FireAlpaca
FireAlpaca is a free digital painting program for Windows and Mac made by PGN Inc. in Tokyo, available in ten languages. It features customizable brushes with new original brushes released weekly, brush textures, automatic line correction presets, and comic-oriented tools such as a frame (panel) tool, speed line and concentration filters, halftones, Japanese pattern filters, a 3D perspective grid and line extraction. It also includes a simple animation tool, mesh deformation, gradient maps and a text tool. A separate paid edition, FireAlpaca SE, adds a rebuilt multi-core brush engine, 16-bit channels, a new filter system and a dark UI.
Good for
Beginners and hobbyists on modest computers who want a free, simple program with basic manga panel and effect tools.
Watch out for
Desktop only (Windows and Mac). The free version is a lighter tool; features such as the new brush engine, 16-bit channels and some animation production tools are reserved for the paid SE edition.
Pricing notes
FireAlpaca is free. As of October 2026 the FireAlpaca SE page lists a one-time price of $39.99 with no subscription, and a 20% sale was announced on 2 October 2026.
