About Jitsi Meet
Jitsi Meet is an open-source video conferencing project. Calls start from a custom URL with no account, and include screen sharing, integrated chat, emoji reactions and collaborative document editing through Etherpad. Audio uses the Opus codec, and calls are encrypted by default with additional security settings. People can use the free hosted service at meet.jit.si, download iOS and Android apps (also on F-Droid), or self-host their own instance using the handbook and Ubuntu/Debian packages. The Jitsi team also runs JaaS (Jitsi as a Service) for developers who want hosted Jitsi. Jitsi is a trademark of 8x8, Inc.
Good for
Anyone who wants quick, account-free video calls, and organisations that want to run their own conferencing server.
Watch out for
Jitsi announced on October 9, 2026 that meetings on the public meet.jit.si service are now limited to 95 minutes, with more changes to come. Self-hosting removes that limit but requires running your own servers.
Pricing notes
As of October 2026 the software is free and open source and meet.jit.si is free to use. Hosted JaaS is a separate paid service; its prices were not checked.
