About Zoom
Zoom started as a video meetings app, and its Zoom Workplace suite adds team chat, cloud phone, webinars and events, Zoom Rooms for conference spaces, and documents (Docs, Sheets, Slides). Its AI features summarise meetings and suggest next steps, My Notes acts as a note taker, and ZoomMate can generate assets such as decks and docs. Separate products cover contact centres, virtual agents, employee engagement (Workvivo) and hiring (BrightHire). Developers can embed Zoom with the Video SDK, Meeting SDK and APIs, and the Zoom Marketplace hosts integrations with tools such as Microsoft, Google, Salesforce and Atlassian. Apps are offered on desktop and mobile, plus a browser extension and an Outlook plug-in.
Good for
Teams and individuals who run frequent video meetings or webinars and want meeting summaries, phone and chat from one vendor.
Watch out for
On the free Basic plan meetings are capped at 40 minutes and 100 participants. Many products (Phone, Contact Center, Webinars) are sold separately or as add-ons, so check what a plan includes.
