About Matomo
Matomo is a web analytics platform focused on data ownership and privacy compliance. It can be self-hosted on your own servers for free or used as Matomo Cloud. Standard features include ecommerce, event, content, campaign and site search tracking, real-time reports, segmentation, visitor profiles, goals and funnels, a GDPR manager, cookieless tracking options, a Google Analytics data importer and HTTP APIs. Paid cloud tiers and plugins add heatmaps, session recordings, A/B testing, form and media analytics, multi-channel attribution, a tag manager and SSO integrations.
Good for
Organisations that want full ownership of analytics data, need GDPR-oriented tooling, or must self-host for compliance reasons.
Watch out for
Self-hosting means running and updating your own server and database. Some advanced features such as heatmaps and session recordings are paid on cloud plans or as premium plugins.

As of October 2026 the On-Premise Community edition is free, and Matomo Cloud Business starts at 29 per month (excl. tax) for 50,000 hits, with 2 months free on annual billing and a 21-day free trial.
