About MediBang Paint

MediBang Paint is a free painting and comic creation app from MediBang Inc. in Japan, available for Windows, macOS, iPad, iPhone and Android. The desktop version includes over 50 customizable brushes, snap guides for perspective and speed lines, panel creation by slicing page borders, and multi-page comic management in a single file. It ships with about 800 pre-made tones and backgrounds plus free fonts, and a cloud feature syncs files, brushes and settings across devices. A group project feature lets several people work on one comic. It reads and writes PSD, PNG, JPG and its own MDP format. The same company also publishes MediBang Paletta, a separate iPad illustration app.

Good for

Beginners and hobbyist manga artists who want free panel, tone and page-management tools across desktop and mobile, with cloud sync between devices.

Watch out for

The official site now leads with the separate MediBang Paletta iPad app, so check you download MediBang Paint itself. The download page mentions pop-up ads in the free desktop version, and cloud features need an internet connection and a MediBang account.

Pricing notes

The core app is free. A paid MediBang Premium subscription adds exclusive brushes, materials and other extras per the site; its price could not be read on the official page.
