About Midjourney
Midjourney is a self-funded research lab whose image and video models are used through midjourney.com or a Discord bot. You write a prompt, get a grid of candidate images, then refine them or turn them into short videos; the current model line is V8.x, which adds a Personalization feature that learns your taste from images you rate. Generation runs on GPU time: Fast mode draws from a monthly allowance, while Relax mode is unlimited for images on the Standard plan and above. A limited trial exists only in the separate niji·journey mobile app.
Good for
Illustrators, concept artists and marketers who want polished, stylised images from short prompts and are comfortable iterating through variations rather than precise masking or layer control.
Watch out for
Per the help center there is no free trial on the website or Discord. Images are public by default; Stealth Mode, which keeps work private, is only on the Pro and Mega plans. Companies with more than $1M in yearly gross revenue must be on Pro or Mega. Refunds are only offered if under 20 GPU minutes were ever used.
Pricing notes
As of October 2026 the plan comparison page lists Basic $10/month, Standard $30, Pro $60 and Mega $120, with about 20% off when paid annually upfront. Fast GPU time ranges from 200 minutes (Basic) to 60 hours (Mega) per month; extra GPU time is $4/hour and unused Fast time does not roll over.
