About Rocket.Chat

Rocket.Chat is a communications platform for messaging, voice and video calls, screen sharing and file sharing, aimed largely at defence, government and critical-infrastructure organisations. It can be deployed on-premises, in a secure cloud or fully air-gapped. It federates natively over Matrix and XMPP so partners on other systems can collaborate without bridges, and offers role- and attribute-based access control, audit and retention. Teams can build their own apps and workflows using REST APIs and SDKs, and Rocket.Chat AI (or a bring-your-own model) adds features such as thread summaries and translation. A separate offering covers citizen engagement. Desktop and mobile apps connect to a workspace URL.

Watch out for

The website is aimed at secure and government deployments, and commercial pricing is quote-only. Desktop and mobile apps need an existing workspace URL from an admin.

Pricing notes

As of October 2026 the plans page offers a free self-managed Starter plan (pitched at technical evaluation, small businesses and non-profits), mentions a Community Edition, and lists a Commercial plan with 'Get pricing'. A reduced-price non-profit programme is mentioned.
