About Anytype
Anytype is a local-first workspace made by Any, a Swiss association, for notes, wikis, databases and team chat. Content lives in an encrypted vault on your device, works offline, and syncs peer-to-peer on local networks or through Anytype's network, with only the user holding the encryption keys. It offers a block-based editor, databases shown as tables, Kanban boards or galleries, templates, widgets and a graph view of linked objects. Accounts can be created offline and users can self-host their own network or backups. Desktop apps run on macOS, Windows and Linux, with native apps for iOS and Android. A business offering adds SSO, an admin panel and self-hosting.
Good for
People and small teams who want a Notion-style workspace that keeps data encrypted on their own devices and can be used offline or self-hosted.
Watch out for
The source is published under the Any Source Available License, which limits commercial use, so it is not an OSI open-source licence. The free plan includes 100 MB of remote storage and 10 shared channels.
Pricing notes
As of October 2026 the pricing page lists Free, Plus $4/month (1 GB remote storage), Pro $8/month (10 GB) and Ultra $16/month (100 GB), with about 20% off yearly; it is unclear whether the shown prices are monthly or yearly rates. There is a 30-day money-back guarantee and 50% off for educators and students. Self-hosted networks need no membership.
