About Everything
Everything, from voidtools, is a freeware search engine for Windows that locates files and folders by name instantly. It shows every file and folder on the computer and narrows the list as you type, with Boolean operators, wildcards and filters by type or location. It indexes only file and folder names, which takes seconds on a fresh install, uses little memory, and keeps NTFS indexes current through the NTFS USN Journal so changes are not missed even when it is closed. File contents can be searched with a content: function, though contents are not indexed so that search is slow. There are installer, portable and Lite builds, and a 1.5 beta.
Good for
Anyone on Windows who needs to find files by name across large drives far faster than the built-in search.
Watch out for
NTFS indexing needs the Everything service or running as administrator. Content search is not indexed and is slow. Windows only.
Pricing notes
As of October 2026 the FAQ says Everything is freeware, with donations welcome.
