About REAPER
REAPER is a digital audio workstation made by Cockos for multitrack audio and MIDI recording, editing, processing, mixing and mastering. It is a small, fast download that can run from a portable or network drive, supports VST, VST3, LV2, AU, CLAP, DX and JS plugins, and includes hundreds of built-in effects. Routing is flexible with multichannel support throughout, and the program can be extended with scripting (ReaScript), themes, custom layouts, OSC and control surfaces. There is a single fully featured version; licences are priced by how it is used. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux (x86 and ARM).
Good for
Recording engineers, podcasters, sound designers and game audio teams who want a low-cost, scriptable DAW that runs on older or modest hardware and on Linux.
Watch out for
It ships with few virtual instruments and sound content compared with Live, FL Studio or Logic, so producers often add third-party plugins. All licence purchases are final.
Pricing notes
As of October 2026 the purchase page lists a $60 discounted licence (personal use, or businesses under USD 20,000 yearly revenue, education and non-profits) and a $225 commercial licence, before taxes. A licence includes updates through version 8.99. Evaluation is free and fully functional for 60 days.
